When we think German, we think precision engineering and quality. And this is exactly what we have here today from Aristo. Aristo was founded in 1907 by Julius Epple in Pforzheim, jewelry and watch making city in black forrest, Germany. The company has been producing timepieces for the last three generations.
Aristo Vintage Aviator Grey Leather - Sapphire |
The Aristo Aviator is clearly inspired by pilot watches from the 60s. And that means it is designed with legibility with certain elegant in mind. The dial is kept simple and sticks to the basics - Arabic numerals for the hour markers and a set of sword handset instilling the epoch. Sticking to the classics, Aristo selected an aged yellowed colour for it's indices and hands to contrast beautifully on the black dial. It's highly refreshing and fuss free dial. Let's just say, we LOVE it. And a good amount of SuperLuminova is used on the hands for good visiblity in the dark. Another interesting point of the Aristo Vintage Aviator Grey Leather 3H100 is the rather huge dial opening. That means this watch is all dial. It makes it look visually bigger than the size suggest. This also takes legibility to another level and serves a key piece of identity for aviation watches. Held together by the aviator logo at the 12, automatic at the 6 and date window at the 3, this watch is well spaced, suitable for ease of reading. The lack of the usual signature, further clears up space on the dial, and is a great choice for added clarity.
Made In Germany |
Now, to the case. As the name implies, the watch measures at a smaller size of 38.5mm, a lug-to-lug size of 44mm, a thickness of 11mm and a lug width of 20mm. The 316L stainless steel case is well finished, being fully blasted to achieve the vintage military aesthetic, subtle and ready for adventure. What's more, it even comes with a display back for us watch enthusiast to admire the SW200 at work. The size of the case coupled with the short lug-to-lug dimension makes this a great fit on all wrist sizes. Aiming for a more modernised fit, Aristo choose to make an aviator watch with smaller dimensions for watch enthusiasts of today. Love it or hate it, it is well executed and offers a unique proposition.
The Aristo Vintage Aviator Grey Leather 3H100 is powered by Swiss automatic movement, Sellita SW200, operating at 28,800 bph (4 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 26 jewels with a power reserve of 38 hours.

In conclusion, the Aristo Vintage Aviator Grey Leather 3H100 is certainly worth considering if you are in the market for a good quality German watch with an SW200 movement that doesn't break the bank. The good size and dimension also means this is a great everyday watch that will fit most wrist sizes.
