"Multifort, the lionheart of Mido since the 1930s…"

Mido Watches has a century their own in producing many if not, all their Swiss-made watches with dexterity and prowess. All of their timepieces, even until today, unveil such essential traits without merely putting out their brand name without many credentials. Skilled watchmaking can be seen from the production of artisanal enameled dials ladies timingepieces to the auction-worthy Bughatti's "egg-shaped grill" watches since 1925. Another great strength of Mido derives from their pioneering of durable tool watches like their Ocean Star Commander, and the Multifort collections since 80 years ago. Focusing on the latter, we would like to introduce the Mido Multifort Special edition 42mm Ref. M005.430.36.051.80.

Mido Multifort based on the architectural Sydney's Harbour Bridge

The Mido Multifort Special Edition's values and aesthetics based on the architectural Sydney's Harbour Bridge that radiates force and strength, but before we get right into it, we at Gnomon Watches wants to tell the Multifort story that we think Mido deserves. The Multifort line came about during the time where the world is facing the Great Depression. During this chaos period in 1930, Mido stomped out and revealed the Multifort that what has made them established and known for until this day, as we believe.

In the early 1930s was where the great depression hit, the financial crisis did result in the watchmaker's center of activity and headquarters being moved to Biel, resulting in its first centralization. Further, Mido forcefully changed its segment to more practical and timeless watches with protection and excellent craftsmanship their most important. Therefore, in 1934, when the whole centralized team worked on this particular path, the Multifort is born with its distinct characteristics that later benchmarked its reputation: being impervious to water, dust, and rust, shock-resistant and antimagnetic. This is the first time Mido combines the four aspects that made them successful, especially their water-resistant system later known as "aquadura" in 1959.

Mido's black & orange bi-colour theme
Eighty years now, the Mido Multifort Special Edition exemplified this legacy. Measuring at 42mm wide and 10.95mm tall, the stainless steel case gets the extremely technical process of Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coating process to ensure continued resistance to corrosion. This microscopically thin layer boosts the watch's hardness and robustness while enhancing its elegant aesthetics in beautiful shades of black while being hypoallergenic properties increase its universal appeal and allow for a range of applications. Since it carries the Multifort moniker, it features a screw-in crown and case back that are done in blackout tone as well, keeping the water-resistant of 100m for everyday activities.

Underneath its flat sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflection treatment, the Special Edition Multifort has a solid look thanks to its black dial and orange appliques and hands. The color theme shouts Mido (being their home color), while it somehow brings to mind the American football team Cleveland Browns color as well, which is refreshing in all ways. One thing to mention where the main dial carries the Harbour Bridge "tuxedo" style ribbing, which has been the DNA of the Multifort. The day/date display at 3 o'clock, and the reheat minute markers are customized in black and orange to make all things flow seamlessly. Since the Multifort Special edition is Mido's all-rounder Sports model, wearability and legibility are at its best.

Caliber 80 based on the ETA C07.621
Under the dial spots, the in-house Caliber 80 automatic movement from Mido. The Caliber 80 is the latest generation automatic watch movement — the caliber 80 of MIDO based on the ETA C07.621 with a full 80-hour power reserve. The Caliber 80 is considered in-house as MIDO is part of the Swatch group family, and the modified ETA CO7.621 features a Nivachoc spring with its frequency reduced to 21,600 Hz for and an improved mainspring capacity. The caliber 80 inside the Multifort makes it so value-driven as it hoods one of the highest-quality movements today at an exceptional price point.

The Mido Multifort Special edition 42mm Ref. M005.430.36.051.80 pairs with a black leather strap with alligator prints to elevates the elegant side, done with the orange stitching to keeps the whole bi-color Mido signature color theme. As this runs a special edition, it comes with an inverse color strap (orange with black stitching), and both straps attached a PVD black signed deployant clasp for comfortable wearing.

SuperLuminova for Superb Glow In Dark

Ending it off the Special Edition Multifort showcases all the original traits of the Multifort line, which is the first watch available on the market combining all four modern advantages: self-winding, watertight, antimagnetic and impact resistant. It features the strength of an all-occasion sporty watch with its design cues heavily reflects Mido architectural philosophy, like from the sleek bi-color orange and black tones, to the Harbour bridge ribbings on the dial. Modernly and nostalgic tastes while featuring historically accurate traits that watch enthusiasts seek today. What's more, the caliber 80 inside the robust Multifort feels more than enough to justify its value proposition.
