Seventy-five years after the unveiling of its very first Ocean Star, MIDO is launching a special-edition series in homage to this iconic collection, known since the 1940s for its unfailing water-resistance.

The  two new Ocean Star Tribute collection is a magnificent contemporary reinterpretation of the diver's watches created in the 1960s.

The Ocean Star is the brand's nautical dive watch collection that consists of the most modern Swiss Made divers in different color variants and strap combos. Every single piece from the collection is modernly designed both in and out, until today where Mido took up the bold challenge of reviving a resonant part of its watchmaking heritage in the form of theOcean Star 200C Two-Tone Ref. M042.430.21.041.00 we are about to introduce. The design cues strongly reflect on its vintage 37mm MIDO SkyDive Diver and Diver Scuba, while the resemblance more closely to the latter for its hour markers.

The Ocean Star sized for modern tastes at a 42.5mm diameter case with a height of 12mm. The straightforward and robust design, which was archetypal that stamped the world of dive watches since its popularity of recreational diving in the 60s. The Ocean Star furthers bears their iconic straight lugs mid-case design with a full satin-brushed finishing on the case surfaces, enhancing the tool-watch of the 60s look. The finishings done here, to be honest, is almost impeccable, elevating luxurious sides out from its shadow. The gold tone bezel features a black ceramic insert, and is narrow like it supposed to be, rotating at 120 clicks crisply in an anti-clockwise direction. The case back has a beautiful surprise in store- decorated with a polished starfish in relief, the historical symbol of the Ocean Star.

The pioneer of water-tight case in the early 30s, Mido gets the water-resistance up to a pressure of 20 bars (200 m/660 ft), an essential feature of any diver's watch, while most of us might most probably bring it to the beach for some sun-tanning with our children, or at the office behind our desk "diving" away.

Intricate ripple patterns reminiscent of marine depths

Now let's move on to what's underneath the ultra-resistant flat sapphire crystal. The gilt hour markers are applied nicely onto its oceanic black dial, with hash markers in-between for a more precise reading. The sober black dial also gets a nice texture, reminiscing a a unique sense of ocean waves . All these traits are the definition and a nod to dive watches of the '60s with modern craftsmanship. Oh, Super-LumiNova® applied on the indexes and hands to ensure perfect readability, whatever the conditions.

Finally, the integrated steel bracelet injects a healthy dose of sporty style, giving the Ocean Star the superb tool watch-look. It's robustly built with comfort and innate water-resistance naturally lends it to a must-have for dive watches. The signed clasp features a diver extension that allows one to adjust with ease.
