Smaller watches are indeed getting back in style, and they're here to stay. At a time where many watch brands are shaving a few millimeters off their timepieces to embrace the enchanting vintage size, dive watches don't have to look like giant nautical clocks on the wrist anymore. Having said that, Glycine dropped a range of exciting new dive models coming in a universal 39mm form factor. Relish this new introduction with a welcoming sapphire crystal upgrade and a reliable automatic movement packed full of Swiss-made goodness.
Glycine was founded in 1914 by the ingenious Eugène Meylan in Bienne, Switzerland. In the initial years of its founding, Glycine specialised in miniature movements, clad in precious metals and platinum cases for women. In the 1930s, Glycine started to launch its own self-winding watches, and subsequently, chronometer watches. Today, Glycine is most well known for its Airman models first launched in 1953. It was the first watch to introduce multiple time zones.

Glycine Sea Kraken 39mm Black - Black Nylon Ref. GL0501 |
Glycine introduces the Sea Kraken, a brand-new dive watch collection that pays tribute to maritime heritage by blending modern precision with timeless design. Built for durability, it features a versatile 39mm case size, ensuring a comfortable fit for most wrists. Initially launched with a crisp white dial, the collection now welcomes a bold new addition—a robust black dial that enhances its striking appeal. With this latest release, Glycine continues to refine its legacy of crafting reliable and stylish dive watches.
Measuring 39mm in diameter, the new Sea Kraken has a lug-to-lug of 48mm and thinness of 12.7mm! This set of dimensions will sure fit the wrist of most people. The case is made of 316L stainless steel featuring both satin-brushed and polished finishing. In spite of its size, the Sea Kraken boasts a 150m of water resistance, achieved through the signed screw-down crown and case back. The watch also features a classic-vintage steel dive bezel, allowing you to track dive times or even your daily commute to work.

Classic designs tribute to maritime heritage |
Beneath the box sapphire crystal lies a vintage-aged black dial, featuring a pilot-inspired display distinguished by a central cross. The dial showcases a blend of yellowed circular and baton indices, with a distinctive triangular marker at 12 o'clock. These aged markers lend the watch a subtle patina, evoking a timeless charm that remains a staple trend in the horology world. Positioned at 3 o'clock, the white date wheel integrates seamlessly into the design, maintaining dial symmetry by resembling the surrounding indices. Complementing the aesthetic are classic arrow-shaped hands, ensuring effortless readability. When darkness falls, visibility remains uncompromised, thanks to the generous application of Swiss SuperLuminova on both the hands and indices.
Powering the Sea Kraken is the ever-reliable GL224 automatic movement. It is essentially based on the renowned ETA 2824-2 or Selita SW200-1. It has 25/26 jewels, beats at 28,800 BPH and has a power reserve of 38 hours. This movement has endured the test of time and will be reliably ticking away for many years to come. Such reliable specification makes it a perfect watch to take it anywhere and do anything without worry.

Moving away from the dial and case, the Sea Kraken comes on a Black fabric nylon strap with yellow stripe. With a burgundy buckle, this keeps the watch versatile, great for any occasion.
Nowadays, it is getting increasingly rare for brands in the watch industry to actually listen to their fans and produce watches that they are yearning for. With the Sea Kraken, Glycine does just that—introducing a new addition in what many consider the perfect case size at 39mm. This ensures that more collectors can enjoy a well-proportioned dive watch, now available in a variety of striking colorways. Kudos to Glycine for being a brand that strives to appeal to everyone and in doing so, standing out amongst its peers as a brand that listens.
