The Angles Cylindrex is a bold and innovative timepiece that showcases
dual Miyota 6T15 movements. Designed in 2021 after Miyota's competition
to reinvigorate their 6T movement series, this watch introduces a
groundbreaking complication. The linear hour and minute hands trace the
length of a cylindrical rod, pointing to the correct time, a unique
feature never before seen in horology. This design adds complexity and
originality, combining intricate mechanical engineering with an
avant-garde aesthetic that sets the Cylindrex apart in the world of
contemporary watchmaking.


Inspired by the bold, industrial aesthetics of high-end timepieces like
Rebellion’s Weap-One and Cabestan’s Winch Tourbillon, the Cylindrex
BlackIce features a striking case design that is both contemporary and
masculine. Primarily made from sapphire crystal, it’s held together with
316L stainless steel in a black DLC treatment. Despite its impressive
dimensions—48.2mm in diameter, 42mm lug-to-lug, and a sleek 25mm
height—the case is surprisingly wearable, comfortably fitting wrists of
all sizes. Its cylindrical form and distinctive lugs add to the modern
edge, though it's certainly a watch that demands attention, not easily
concealed under a sleeve.

glass, which, while tempered, is nowhere near as hard, sapphire ranks a
9 on the Mohs hardness scale, just below diamond's perfect 10. This
makes it virtually scratchproof, an essential feature for a high-end
timepiece.


The unique cylinder-shaped sapphire crystal on the Cylindrex represents
a significant investment for Angles. Unlike more affordable options like
acrylic, plexiglass, or mineral glass, which are much cheaper to
produce, sapphire is a premium material that increases the cost of
manufacturing by nearly ten times. This costly upgrade adds a
distinctive touch to the watch, ensuring that it stands out both in
terms of design and the quality of its craftsmanship.

The Cylindrex puts timekeeping at the forefront with two innovative
methods for reading the time. When worn with the arm hanging by your
side, the smaller top of the cylinder faces upward, revealing a
traditional 12-hour clock dial for standard timekeeping. This makes for
quick, conventional time reading. However, the true standout feature is
the cylinder time display complication. The linear hour and minute
hands, in bold red, move along the length of the cylinder rod, directly
pointing to the time. To read the time, simply bring the watch into view
and follow the hands as they guide you to the correct hour and minute.


What’s even more impressive is the versatility built into the design:
each movement can be set to different time zones, allowing you to track
time in multiple locations or keep both dials synchronized to the same
time. Both displays are powered by the same Miyota 6T15 movement,
ensuring reliable performance. Additionally, the markers and hands are
filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova®, ensuring legibility even during
late-night adventures.
The design of the watch is enhanced by a "turbofan" style rotor visible
through the exhibition sapphire crystal caseback, which adds a
distinctive touch.

escapement, paired with Parashock 2 shock protection, ensuring

jewel bearings, safeguarding the delicate pivots of the balance wheel
from shocks.


The movement beats at 28,800 beats per hour (bph), which delivers the
smooth, precise motion seen in the second hand of the end-cap dial. This
rapid beat contributes to a fluid, uninterrupted time display. The
bi-directional rotor ensures the movement stays wound, although it only
winds clockwise, offering a practical and reliable mechanism that is
both efficient and resilient for daily use.
