Mido Watches has a century their own in producing many, if not, all their Swiss-made watches with dexterity and prowess. All of their timepieces, even until today, unveil such essential traits without merely putting out their brand name without many credentials. Skilled watchmaking has seen from the production of artisanal enameled dials ladies timepieces to the auction-worthy Bughatti's "egg-shaped grill" watches since 1925. Another high strength of Mido derives from their pioneering of durable tool watches like their Ocean Star Commander, and the Multifort collections since 80 years ago. Focusing on the Commander- a watch collection created in 1959, started as their extreme water-resistant with their Aqauadura cork gasket and the Permit crystal (pressure-fitted). Today we would like to introduce the Mido Commander 1959 M8429.4.N7.11.

Mido Commander 1959 Pixel Ref. M8429.4.N7.11

Let's dive into the dimensions of the Mido, housed in a 316L stainless steel monocoque case that measures 37mm in width and diameter. This lugless design offers a perfect fit and proportion, making it an ideal choice even for those with smaller wrists. The retro Commander truly shines with its impressive 10.5mm thickness, maintaining a sleek and elegant profile that's perfect for corporate meetings or dinner dates. From the top, the sophisticated case design features a thin bezel that enhances the dial's presence, giving it a classic, old-school dress watch feel. The mesh bracelet not only adds to the watch's elegance but also ensures exceptional wearability, offering comfort for all occasions. Every detail contributes to a truly refined wrist presence and an enjoyable wearing experience.

One glance beneath the high-domed acrylic crystal of the Commander reveals a stunning dial, featuring applied hour markers with multi-faceted edges. The printed 'Pixel' pattern dial is adorned with SuperLuminova, and the absence of a date window allows the unique design to take center stage. The hands echo the hour markers, crafted in metallic silver with matching facets and luminous accents. The only other details on the dial are the applied Mido logo at the top and the 'Commander' at the bottom, maintaining a well-balanced and harmonious layout.

If the dial has that fifties charm, the movement ticking inside is sophisticatedly modern. The Swiss movement inside lies the key for its slimness- the automatic Mido Caliber 80 based on the ETA C07.621. The 25-jewel automatic Caliber 80.6211 is Mido proprietary name for their 80 hours power reserve ETA movement. Its frequency reduced to 21,600 Hz for and an improved mainspring capacity. The caliber 80 inside the Commander makes it so value-driven as it hoods one of the highest-quality movements today at an exceptional price point.

Lastly, pairing genuinely with stainless steel mesh bracelet featuring a complementary Mido-signed sliding clasp reflects both versatility and elegance. The bracelet contributes much to the design architecture and the appeal of this Commander 1959. The geometric design complements the case.

The Commander 1959 watch has been produced without interruption since that year. The mesh bracelet and the vintage Mido logo are typical of this iconic model as well as the monocoque case housing an automatic movement. Everything on the Mido Commander has been piece together beautifully in both the design and how its executed — offering incredible details that make it one of the most refined pieces in the collection. One can now be a very satisfying watch to wear the Commander every day while still able to admire its old school charm.
