As 2024 continues to tick away, the watch industry is buzzing with innovation, design, and technology. From sleek smartwatches to traditional mechanical timepieces, there’s something for every watch enthusiast this year. To wrap up 2024, our team is excited to share our favorite picks, showcasing a blend of cutting-edge features, timeless designs, and personal favorites that truly stand out. After some casual chats with my team members, I’ve put together a fantastic list of watches that you’ll definitely want to check out!

Each of us considered different factors when selecting our top timepieces for 2024—whether it was standout design, durability, or the latest tech innovations. We’ve chosen watches that not only look great but also tell a meaningful story. Whether you're searching for a reliable, everyday companion or a statement piece to elevate your collection, these watches tick all the boxes and are sure to impress.

Ander’s Pick: Squale 1521 Sole Cascante

As the founder of Gnomon Watches, Anders has witnessed the evolution of countless timepieces, but his choice for 2024, the Squale 1521 Sole Cascante, holds special significance. This watch, a collaboration between Gnomon Watches and Squale, feels like a personal creation. What captivated him immediately was the stunning textured cobalt-blue sunburst dial, inspired by sunlight cascading through ocean depths. Aptly named Sole Cascante, or "cascading sun," the dial mimics the way light refracts underwater, radiating from the 12 o’clock position. For Anders, this design is more than eye-catching; it’s a reflection of his passion for both artistic detail and the natural world. “Every time I look at it, it feels like I’m seeing sunlight underwater,” he shares.

Beyond its stunning aesthetics, the Squale 1521 Sole Cascante impresses with its exceptional craftsmanship and technical upgrades. A standout feature is the introduction of COSC bi-lux finishing, which takes the series to new heights of refinement. This meticulous finishing technique combines contrasting polished and brushed surfaces, adding a rich depth and visual complexity to the watch. For the first time in the 1521 series, this feature elevates the timepiece to a luxury standard while maintaining its rugged dive-ready DNA. Alongside the 42mm Von Büren case, flat sapphire crystal, and 500-meter water resistance, the Sole Cascante is both a functional tool and a sophisticated accessory. Inside, the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 movement, known for its precision, ensures that it meets Anders' high standards for performance. For Anders, the Sole Cascante is a landmark release that bridges innovation and timeless design. The introduction of the COSC bi-lux finishing is not just an aesthetic upgrade—it symbolizes the evolution of the 1521 series, highlighting the balance between luxury and functionality.

Samuel’s Pick: Hitori Kolahon Pale Planet

For Samuel, a senior member of the Gnomon team with over a decade of experience in the watch industry, the Hitori Pale Planet is more than just a timepiece; it represents the perfect union of craftsmanship and artistry. Samuel, who played a pivotal role in the creation of Hitori Watch Co., has always been drawn to watches that tell a meaningful story, and this piece is no exception. This year, Hitori launched the Meguro Series, and the Pale Planet stands out as a special collaboration with Thai artist Kolahon, whose work Samuel has admired for years. Samuel’s involvement in building a close relationship with Kolahon, leading to the artist’s first-ever collaboration in the watch world, makes this watch particularly significant to him. Watching the entire process unfold—from the initial concept to the final product—was an incredibly personal journey, and seeing this collaboration come to life has been one of the highlights of his career.

Beyond its emotional value, the Pale Planet is a stunning example of how traditional art can seamlessly merge with modern watchmaking. The dial features a hand-painted enamel design, a first for Hitori Watch Co., with 3D-printed lettering capturing the magic of a sunset sky, transitioning from pink to blue as day shifts to night. This visual poetry is set in a 39.6mm case that fits comfortably on most wrists, paired with the reliable Miyota 9075 GMT movement. Its pinkish tones give it a stylish yet funky edge, while its limited run of just 55 pieces makes it an exclusive collector’s item.

CY’s Pick: Angles Base60 Azure Steel

Among the many watches released this year, our professional team member CY has chosen the Angles Base60 Azure Steel as his favorite. After years of experience in the watch industry, CY admitted that he had grown tired of the usual designs with classical dials, central hands, and markers. The Base60 immediately stood out to him for its unique, quirky, and futuristic design. The dial features anodized aluminum flanges and rotating discs, highlighted by luminous details for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions. The 3-arm wandering hour complication, though not entirely new, remains rare in the market. This mechanism uses a bold Arabic hour disc that arcs across a 60-minute scale, creating an intuitive and modern way of telling time, without conventional hands.

In addition to its eye-catching design, the Base60 also boasts strong technical performance, ensuring it’s as reliable as it is stylish. With a 42mm case diameter, it makes a bold statement on the wrist while housing the modified Miyota 8215 movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is also water-resistant to 50m and features a push-pull crown for easy operation. For CY, the Base60 isn't just a watch with an eye-catching design; it's a well-rounded timepiece that combines futuristic aesthetics with a reliable movement and quality craftsmanship. This balance of novelty and dependability makes it a standout choice for him this year.

Christine’s Pick: Dievas Maya MK III Sealab Blue

The Dievas Maya MK III Sealab Blue has been chosen as Christine's favorite watch for 2024, and it's easy to see why. As a senior member of the Gnomon team, Christine has an eye for quality, and this timepiece caught her attention for its impressive construction. After discussing it with her, I quickly realized what drew her to this timepiece: the vibrant blue sunburst dial and striking bi-tone blue-red bezel. The color combination offers a fresh, energetic look that resonates with her love for bold, bright colors. Christine has always been drawn to designs that make a statement, and the unique combination of blue and red on the bezel is a perfect expression of her style. The sandwich dial, a feature not often seen today, gives the watch an added layer of depth and a cool stencil effect that Christine finds captivating. “It’s rare to see this technique now, and it really adds to the character of the watch,” she says, admiring the way the dial glows even brighter than most due to its layering.

Beyond its visual appeal, the Dievas Maya MK III Sealab Blue also speaks to Christine’s appreciation for both form and function. The 40.5mm diameter is the ideal size for her wrist— neither too small nor too large. The curved lugs allow the watch to sit comfortably, wrapping around her wrist and making it easy to wear all day. Christine loves the DLC coated stainless steel case, which gives the watch a solid, quality feel. With a sapphire crystal and a gasket case back, the watch is capable of withstanding depths of up to 1000m, making it both a stylish and practical tool for any adventure. Inside, the Sellita SW200-1 movement, modified to Dievas' specifications, provides the reliability and precision Christine values in a timepiece. For her, the Dievas Maya MK III Sealab Blue is more than just a watch—it’s the kind of piece that really speaks to her love for stylish, high-performance timepieces, showing off her unique taste in every detail.

Denise’s Pick: Hitori Meguro Aki Koyo

When it comes to watches, Denise, our stylish designer at Gnomon, has always had a keen eye for beauty that goes beyond just the mechanics. After years of working in the industry and seeing countless timepieces from different brands, there’s one that truly caught her attention this year—the Hitori Aki Koyo from the Meguro collection. Denise has always been drawn to the warm, autumnal colors, and the Aki Koyo perfectly captures that essence. Its dial radiates the rich, fiery hues of autumn leaves, much like the vibrant scenery along the Meguro River during fall. The watch feels like a tribute to the season itself, with a design that not only honors the beauty of nature but also blends it into a sporty yet elegant timepiece. What really speaks to Denise, though, is how the dial mimics the soft, snowy texture of the Fuyu White edition, creating a peaceful, serene vibe that feels both grounded and graceful. It’s a watch that feels like a moment frozen in time—a snapshot of autumn’s fleeting beauty.

What I really love about Denise’s choice is how well this watch fits her personal style. She’s always had a love for pieces that exude calm and elegance, and the Aki Koyo absolutely nails that with its refined design. Powered by the reliable Miyota 9075 GMT movement, it offers a 41-hour power reserve—trustworthy and precise. For Denise, the 39.6mm diameter of the watch provides a slim, elegant profile that fits beautifully on a woman’s wrist. The integration polishing technique used on the case finishes the Aki Koyo to a level of perfection that gives it that extra bit of sophistication. For me, personally, I’m also completely captivated by this piece. It’s elegant, peaceful, and absolutely stunning. I truly believe this could easily be any woman’s go-to watch for 2024, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and refined craftsmanship.

Jolyn’s Pick: Ball Watch Co. Fireman Enterprise Black

It's no surprise that a timepiece from Ball Watch Co. finds its way onto our favorite list, given their dedication to combining heritage with innovation. Jolyn, our team’s savvy marketing professional, crowned the Ball Fireman Enterprise Black as her watch of the year. What captivated her was its masterful attention to detail, a hallmark of Ball’s craftsmanship. The polished bevels on the bezel and case sides seamlessly contrast with the satin-brushed surfaces, showcasing a dynamic interplay of textures. The black dial, with its minimalist aesthetic, is adorned with classic rectangular indices and dauphine hands, embodying a timeless sophistication. Beyond its design, the watch’s robust functionality and signature micro gas tube illumination—allowing effortless readability in low light—make it as practical as it is elegant, perfectly aligning with Jolyn’s appreciation for refined versatility.

Despite being a dress watch, the Ball Fireman Enterprise Black impresses with its robust 100-meter water resistance, achieved through a screw-down crown and caseback—a testament to its versatile design. At its heart beats the in-house BALL RR1103 movement, derived from the ETA 2824-2, offering approximately 38 hours of power reserve for reliable everyday performance. Complementing its sophisticated case is a meticulously crafted bracelet, featuring intricate multi-finishing that enhances the timepiece's overall elegance. Jolyn admires how the watch effortlessly commands attention with its refined aesthetic, yet its true allure lies in the intricate details and exceptional features waiting to be discovered. Neither overly complex nor underwhelming, it strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and practicality, making it an excellent choice for entry-level collectors seeking a premium experience.

Adi’s Pick: U-boat Sommerso Damasco

Our skilled watchmaker, Adi, has chosen a truly extraordinary timepiece as his favorite: the U-Boat Sommerso Damasco. This watch stands out for its bold design and distinctive features, perfectly aligning with Adi's appreciation for craftsmanship and individuality. One of the most striking aspects of this timepiece is U-Boat's signature left-side crown placement, which not only enhances wearer comfort but also adds a touch of uniqueness to its design. The Damascus steel case further sets it apart, celebrated for its exceptional strength and mesmerizing, natural patterns. Each case is a masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship, ensuring no two watches are identical, making every piece truly special.

The watch's 46mm diameter, 52mm lug-to-lug, and 13mm thickness give it a commanding presence on the wrist, which was exactly what Adi sought. As a self-proclaimed "big guy," Adi loves timepieces that are bold, substantial, and stylish, yet not overpowering. Inside, the Sellita SW200 movement ensures reliability with a 41-hour power reserve, and the watch is built to endure with 300m water resistance and a screw-down crown for added durability. Limited to only 99 pieces, the Sommerso Damasco is as exclusive as it is stunning, making it not just a watch, but a collector’s treasure. Adi admires how it exudes individuality and exceptional craftsmanship, leaving an unforgettable impression. For those looking to make a statement with their wristwear, the U-Boat Sommerso Damasco is the ultimate choice—a true masterpiece that effortlessly commands attention.

Justin’s Pick: Marathon Jeep Willys SSGPM Officer’s Mechanical

When it comes to choosing a timepiece that truly resonates, Justin, one of Gnomon’s most passionate watch enthusiasts, has long been enamored with the Marathon Jeep Willys SSGPM Officer’s Mechanical. This special collaboration between Jeep and Marathon has captured Justin’s attention for years, thanks to its striking design and rugged appeal. He’s always admired the unique design, particularly the 41mm full matte stainless steel case, which he describes as a perfect blend of sleek elegance and masculine charm. The case’s bold, asymmetrical shape and bezel-less design create a minimalist aesthetic that stands out in a sea of traditional watches. For Justin, this case feels just right—rugged yet refined, with a modern edge that makes it feel fresh every time he wears it. The dial, with its simple black background and colorful numerals, emphasizes the watch's no-nonsense appeal, offering legibility without unnecessary embellishment. Justin particularly enjoys how the watch seems to change its character when viewed from different angles, always presenting something new and intriguing.

Beyond its aesthetics, the Marathon Jeep Willys SSGPM is a solid performer. With a 50m water resistance, it fits perfectly within the General Purpose Field Series, making it a reliable companion for everyday adventures. Powered by the Sellita SW210-1 hand-wound movement, it boasts a 42-hour power reserve—something Justin finds particularly intriguing, as he has never owned a hand-wound watch before. If he were to add one to his collection, this would undoubtedly be his choice. With its competitive price point and versatile design, the Marathon Jeep Willys SSGPM is an excellent option for anyone looking to add a hand-wound timepiece to their collection.

Jun Kai’s Pick: Seiko Prospex Automatic Diver Scuba Coastline Champagne

Jun Kai, known for his deep love of watches, has always been drawn to timepieces that combine craftsmanship with a sense of elegance. His 2024 pick, the Seiko Prospex Automatic Diver Scuba Coastline Champagne, is a perfect reflection of this. What truly captivates him about this watch is the Zaratsu polishing, a technique that gives the watch a refined, premium gloss. The mixture of satin brushing and Seiko’s signature high-polish on the case creates a beautiful finish that Jun Kai finds particularly impressive. The 41.3mm case feels just right on the wrist—perfectly balanced, not too bulky, and ideal for his style. As someone who appreciates both beauty and performance, Jun Kai also values the watch’s sapphire crystal and 300-meter water resistance, ensuring it’s not just a visually stunning piece, but also durable enough for daily wear and aquatic adventures.

What really seals the deal for Jun Kai, though, is the champagne dial with its horizontal wave texture, which evokes the serene beauty of ocean waves and resort sunsets. The golden hue reminds him of the warm, diffused sunlight on a peaceful morning, and the simple yet elegant design with white applied indices and handset strikes the perfect balance. Jun Kai isn’t one to enjoy overly complicated dials, and this clean, understated look speaks to his appreciation for simplicity. In addition to the dial’s beauty, this watch is powered by Seiko’s latest 6R55 caliber movement, which boasts a remarkable 72-hour power reserve, ensuring reliable performance even after a few days of rest. The Seiko Prospex Automatic Diver Scuba Coastline Champagne perfectly fits his taste—its craftsmanship, elegant design, and practical features all come together in a way that makes it feel truly personal, a reflection of Jun Kai’s own style and love for well-crafted timepieces.

Zhi Ying’s Pick: Evant Tropic Diver 39 Pro

If I were to choose a standout watch for 2024, it would unquestionably be the Evants Tropic Diver 39 Pro. This timepiece holds a deeply personal meaning for me, as it was the very first mechanical watch I wore when I entered the watch industry. As a newcomer to horology, the Tropic Diver gently guided me into this fascinating world, making it far more than just a watch—it symbolizes the start of my journey in an industry I’ve come to love. The vibrant pumpkin orange dial, with its striking hue, adds a lively pop of color to my daily wardrobe, which tends to lean towards dark-toned shirts. At 39.5mm, the size strikes a perfect balance, fitting comfortably on almost any wrist, including women’s, making it an incredibly versatile choice for a broad range of enthusiasts.

Beyond its sentimental value, the Tropic Diver 39 Pro is a true gem in terms of both craftsmanship and performance. The satin-brushed finish contrasts beautifully with the finely polished chamfered edges, giving the watch a refined, sophisticated appearance that catches the light at just the right angle. The glossy black Bakelite bezel adds a touch of vintage charm, elevating the overall visual appeal. With an impressive 300m of water resistance, this watch is built for durability and functionality, while the reliable Sellita SW200-1 movement ensures precise timekeeping. Combining stunning aesthetics with rugged performance, the Evants Tropic Diver 39 Pro is the perfect blend of form and function.
