Series 1 Athos Review: A Sporty Retro Herodia Dive Watch
Herodia dive watches have been a part of an emerging trend in retro mechanical timepieces. Carrying the 50’s and 60’s watches trend, Herodia is offering reliable timepieces with all components strictly “Swiss Made”. Down to date, Herodia’s distribution had spread across Europe, the United States, and even Asia.
Inspired by the values of Swiss watch manufacturing, Herodia had a special interest in the use of sophisticated movements such as the Lemania and the Valjoux. The more distinctive part among other manufacturers is their utilization of unique and varied watch cases.
During its watchmaking journey, this brand has launched some watches in Series 1 – Arthur, Athos, Sean, Deep Blue, and Bronzed. With different values, each of those is intentionally made to meet everyone’s style and satisfaction. No exception for their very first watch in range, Herodia Series 1 Athos.
As a brief overview, Herodia Series 1 is the very first collection of Herodia that had just been revived in 2018. To mark out, this range is focusing on their historical tradition with distinctive traits. For instance, they are applying the same case dimension of 42mm in width and 48mm lugs to lugs for all watches in the range.
What to Expect from Herodia Series 1 Athos
Aside from its vintage retro styling, Herodia dive watch – Series 1 Athos offers professional dive tool watches for everyone. For instance, as an ode to the past, Athos used an oceanic blue aluminum bezel.
More than that, to make it look more retro, Athos is also equipped with an 8mm diameter screw-down that many watch enthusiasts coined as a “Big Crown” in the past ’60s era. To give you peace of mind, both the case and the crown also have been provided with proper 300m water resistance.
It also has the ideal size for a proper dive watch, while also putting the right balance on its robustness, wearability, and readability. So, overall, I think Series 1 Athos is an advanced 60’s dive watch with a robust and bold style.

Herodia Dive Watch – Series 1 Athos Review
Among other watches in the range, I think its stunning blue color is what makes me turn my head. Suppose you have the same preferences as me and want to know this timepiece closer, I will provide the details for you. So, without any further ado, let’s just dive right in.
The Watch Case
First, let’s talk about the case. The case of Series 1 – blue variation named “Athos” is made of 316L stainless steel with mixed finishing of hand satin-brushed on top and side surfaces. Measuring 42mm in diameter and 48mm lugs to lugs, Athos has the ideal size for a proper professional dive watch.
Moving to the side surface of the watch, one can see the big 8mm diameter crown placed at 3 o’clock and signed with a large H symbol. As far as I know, this big crown styling is popularly known among many watch enthusiasts as part of 60’s watch styling.
Now, let’s go back to the top surface of the watch, which is the ocean-blue aluminum bezel. As another ode to the past, the bezel inserts are also made to show the 60’s iconic characteristic divers marks of a triangle at the 12 o’clock and 60-minute marks.
Further, to keep it safe while being used under the water, both the crown and case back have been equipped with high-quality gaskets that provide proper 300m water resistance.
The Dial
As the main appearance of the watch, you will see the iconic ocean blue dial with an outer closed minute track for the minute indication underneath the flat sapphire crystal. Not to mention its day-date window that was placed in the 3 o’clock position as well.
This watch is legible to me since it is equipped with a large minute hand and glows green SuperLuminova. Aside from its essential indication when one goes diving, this big minute hand also adds an additional retro aspect to the watch.
The Strap
Again and again, Herodia Series 1 Athos is reflecting the 60’s sporty watch look from every detail of the watch, including the strap. To complete the vintage design, Herodia Dive Watch – Series 1 Athos is paired with an exclusive Italian-made tan-brown leather strap which is hand stitched.
For the size, it has a tapered profile of 22m to 22m at the ends. Without any doubt, I think this leather strap makes the watch look more versatile for any occasion.
The Movement
Another strictly “Swiss Made” feature of this watch is also visible from the movement of the watch. Herodia dive watch – Series 1 Athos is powered by Swiss Selita automatic caliber, the SW200. It’s an automatic movement featuring 26 jewels and runs the watch at 28.800 bph with 38 hours of power reserve.
Final Thought
To quickly recap, Herodia Series 1 Athos is the very first collection in a range that is suitable for your professional diving tool or just to complete your everyday sporty style.
Focusing on their historical tradition, Herodia Dive Watch – Series 1 Athos features some special retro-styling such as the crown that is designed in wide size, the iconic 12 o’clock and 60-minute marks triangle at the bezel, or the large minute hand at the dial part.
Further, to put the right balance of wearability, reliability, and robustness, Herodia Dive Watch – Series 1 is also equipped with some additional features such as Superluminova and protection from 300m water pressure. With those intricate details, I think it’s such luck for us to have it at an affordable stunning price.
