Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Enamel White Ref. SART009 |
Seiko is both a genius watchmaker and master in craftsmanship, not just in reliability and quality of their timepieces, but also in their aesthetics and craftsmanship. Therefore, today we will be focusing more on the latter.
The enamel in this model is crafted by none other than Hashiguchi Hiroyuki, a veteran craftsman with over 40 years of experience in the enamel industry. His expertise not only allows him to refine the reproducibility of high-quality manufacturing but also grants him a keen eye for detail—able to discern coating thickness and finishing nuances with precision down to just 0.01mm. Achieving such exacting standards requires not only exceptional visual acuity but also years of mastery in making minute adjustments to the enamel.
As the enamel dial undergoes firing at high temperatures, natural variations in the final product emerge. Subtle differences such as uneven coloring, tiny dents, and black glaze are characteristic of this intricate heating process, adding a unique charm to each piece.

The Presage Craftsmanship measures a 40.2mm in diameter with a thickness of 12.1mm and lug-to-lug distance of 48.0mm, making it very wearable as an everyday watch on any occasion. The dial featured here is a bright white enamel dial with an intricate design. The dial features different depth at impossible precision with a small inner rehaut and a sub dial at the 6 position containing a 24 hour face.
Further, underneath the domed sapphire crystal belies the hour markers are thick, plump black Roman numerals on the enamel face. One can easily spend hours looking at the watch to admire the intricate details that Seiko has put into this excellent dress watch, withstanding the very close scrutiny, and able to pass with flying colours.
A gentleman's mechanical watch like this bears an uncanny resemblance to its esteemed "Grand Seiko" cousins. As part of the Presage lineup of dress watches, it stands a step above the Spirit collection (SARB033) in both build quality and finishing. The elegant touch is further enhanced by a 20mm black cowhide leather strap with a deployant clasp, crafted by a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), ensuring exceptional quality.
