Ocean 39 Marine Blue - Gnomon Exclusive

(99 Reviews)

Dive into the very heart of the Steinhart Ocean 39 Marine Blue, a magnificent watch that brings you the beauty of the ocean with its mesmerising blue and golden hues. This exquisite timepiece never ceases to impress with its strong military connections dating all the way back to the late 1970s. Discover the rich history behind every detail incorporated into this watch that bestows a tribute to its robust predecessors used by the French Royal Navy in the past, specifically the personnels in French Navy school -- the Ecole De Plongee and officers controlling the “Sous marins”.

Coming from a long lineage of iconic timepieces, the Ocean 39 Marine Blue is the breathtaking result of Gnomon Watches continuous collaboration with Steinhart. Our loyalty and friendship forged through thick and thin with this German watchmaker forms the foundation upon which we craft a phenomenal watch, fit for a king. As the first and only authorised dealer for Steinhart in Singapore, we have built a strong partnership with this renowned brand for more than two decades. We are greatly honoured to forge a coveted place on the dial of this Steinhart timepiece.

Steinhart Ocean 39 Marine Blue - Gnomon Exclusive

As the sold-out-within-24-hours Ocean 39 Marine Blue Limited edition, with our first ever signature branded onto the dial of a timepiece, had been an indelible mark in history for Gnomon Watches. Although those 200 pieces fitted with hesalite crystal are gone now, we don’t want to disappoint our community and watch lovers. Therefore, we are presenting the on-going version of the Ocean 39 Marine Blue, sans the double signage and the vintage crystal material.

Listen to the heartbeat of the ocean with the reliable automatic ETA 2824-2 / SW 200 élaboré movement that powers this Swiss-made timepiece. Operating at 28,800 bph (4 Hertz) with hacking and hand winding capabilities, this calibre is built with 25 jewels and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. This manual-wind movement also allows the case of the watch to be thinner and lighter, fitting comfortably on most wrist sizes.

Made from 316L stainless steel, the case of this timepiece flaunts a satin-brushed finish on the top of its lugs and polished sides, mirroring the finishing of dive watches back in the 1960s. This 39mm case has a 47mm lug to lug and a height of 14mm. The Ocean 39 Marine Blue also features a classic diver bezel, with a luminous pip at its 12 o'clock. This brilliant blue bezel has deep and clean knurling on its side for excellent grip during operation. Polished to perfection, this unidirectional stainless steel bezel displays all the grandeur of this watch in 120 clicks.

Satin brushed lugs with polished sides & bezel
Matching its ocean blue bezel, its dial shows off a symmetrical purist format with no date which stays true to the original military design of the 60s. What characterises the Ocean 39 Marine Blue are its square markers and unique handset that were requested by the French Navy to enhance legibility. These features have distinguished military tool watches back then and still set this timepiece apart today. In contrast with most military divers in the past that typically come in a black colour scheme, this watch showcases a modern twist of blue. Not only does this colour change boast a more contemporary look, it also does not deteriorate as quickly.

Conformed to military requirements in which the first thing that caught my attention the moment I laid my eyes on this watch, was its distinct handset that resembled the beautiful tips of a snowflake. With a delicate diamond shape on its second hand, this handset reminds me of the majestic snow-capped mountains and dainty snowflakes descending upon the earth, forming a fresh new page that awaits playful feet and mittened hands. I can't help but ponder the connection between the intricate snowflake hands and this timepiece’s blue colourway. The deep ocean blue tones hint at the melting of snow while its snowflake handset capture the beauty of winter, making this watch perfect for every season. This poetic interpretation of the Ocean 39 Marine Blue serenades me with its gentle charm and it is no wonder that the great visual appeal of its handset, coupled with its great durability and reliability, have caught the eyes of several world militaries.

“Old Radium” Super-LumiNova glows green in the dark

The squared markers enchant with golden hues that change to a burnt brown colour over time, akin to the patina that forms on bronze watch cases. Declared by the “L Swiss L” nomenclature at the bottom, this colour change adds a vintage touch to this timepiece and is caused by the “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova painted onto the markers and handset that glows green in the dark. Furthermore, the Ocean 39 Marine Blue has a screw down Steinhart signed crown that allows for a water resistance of 100m.

In replacement of the hesalite crystal on the L.E version, the exclusive Marine Blue now gets a slight domed sapphire crystal. The glass material is a modern upgrade from those acrylic material fitted on the military watches of the French Navy in the 70s . This sturdy crystal feels more robust with better legibility due to the additional anti-reflective coating within - a practical touch for watch enthusiasts.

Engraved gnomon exclusive on caseback

The Ocean 39 Marine Blue comes on a satin-brushed oyster bracelet with screw links and a flip-lock. Tapered from 20mm to a slim 16mm, this stainless steel bracelet blends in with and extends its case and bezel, made with the same material, to form a single perfect timepiece. It also brings out the splendeur of this watch, gracing it with a timeless sophistication that is truly one of a kind. This metal bracelet does not typically come with military-issued watches in the past, but it tops off the sleek look of this watch so well that we just had to include it!

This prime timepiece exudes a sense of adventure and is one of the rarest, rawest and at the same time most handsome tool watches that will satisfy your collector’s needs. Reminiscent of military dive watches in the 70s, the exclusive Steinhart Ocean 39 Marine Blue stays fervour for collectors. And just like a snowflake, each timepiece is different in its own special way. Presenting la couronne de l'océan, la montre pour toi (the crown of the ocean, the watch for you).
