In the late 1970s, due to the quartz revolution, most mechanical watch manufacturers were forced to close down. Former Leon Breitling Company was no exception. Mr. Wajs bought up much of the Breitling company's stock for the aviation models such as the Navitimer. Mr Wajs began producing Aviation watches using Breitling cases and the same calibre movements used in Breitling watches. These Aviation watches are now prized amongst collectors.

Wwhen Breitling was liquidated, Mr Wajs bought most of the parts, machines and designs. The parts between the Breitling and Aviation series are interchangeable. And that is why Aviation watches are identical in terms of size, case, dial, hands and movements to the original Breitling produced before 1980.
