Marine Moon Phase Blue

Commissioned by the British government, the carpenter John Harrison developed a precision instrument for the accurate determination of longitude at sea, the first marine chronometer in the 18th century. These high-precision chronometers, gimbal mounted in wooden boxes, were mainly built for the Navy in Hamburg, Kiel and Glashütte. They were used on many marine vessels until the invention of the quartz movement and are highly collectable items today.

Steinhart Marine Moon Phase Blue
As a tribute to the craft and to be able to enjoy looking at this classic design on the wrist, Steinhart has developed the series "Marine Chronometer". And today, a brand new moon phase complication is added into this dress watch line.

The Marine Moon Phase Blue starts off with a case's diameter of 42mm and a height of only 12.1mm, a very wearable size, neither too big nor is it likely to be too small. The 50m water-resistant elegant case is finished in a mirror-polished stainless steel material, where you can admire the simple beauty of this instrument under the sapphire crystal at any point in time.

Onto its beautiful sunburst blue dial. The classic spade hour-hand harmonises very well with the large minute track that are only interrupted at 6 clock by the subsidiary dial for the mesmerising moonphase display. The domed sapphire crystal with two anti-reflective coatings on the inside allows a clear view of these components of timekeeping, that even without light remain visible, thanks to the generous use of Swiss luminous paint.

Powered by a Swiss Sellita SW280-1, the 26 Jewels movement beats at 28,800BPH with a date display at 3 o’clock. Most importantly, this 40 hours automatic movement includes a moon-phase complication in which is a feat from a brand that unusually produces dress models like this Marine series.

Lastly, the watch comes paired with a 20mm matching blue leather strap with contrast stitchings, strapping it on through a signed tang-buckle.

Overall, the all new Marine Moon Phase Blue is a rare model to be added into Steinhart’s collection. But we’re glad they did it and in a well execute case and design. Who don’t love a moon phase complication at a pocket friendly price point from a brand that produces phenom watches?
